Powell: The General Let’s Fly

Warts and All, But Mostly Warts

Colin Powell, former U.S. Army four-star General, wounded Vietnam Veteran, Joint Chief’s Chairman, National Security Adviser and Secretary of State got hacked again and we are the gleeful beneficiaries of his unalloyed thoughts on our presidential candidates.

Powell is the quintessential Washington maven, continuously accumulating power and prestige during a long public career.

Best of all, or certainly not the least, he is a son of Harlem, born to Jamaican immigrants.

Powell says, Clinton is a “greedy, not transformational” figure who messes up everything she touches because of her “hubris,” according to the Post.

On Benghazi, the Times reported he said, “Republican political attacks on Benghazi were “a stupid witch hunt” and wrote that “basic fault falls on a courageous ambassador who thought Libyans now love me and I am O.K. in this very vulnerable place.”

About her email problems, he wrote, “H.R.C. could have killed this two years ago by merely telling everyone honestly what she had done and not tie me into it.”

The “not transformational” comment is an all-in-one zinger which concisely encapsulates the notion that while she may be the first woman, she is decidedly old-hat and more of the same.

Colin may have Clinton Fatigue but he despises Donald Trump, saying, ““Yup, the whole birther movement was racist, That’s what the 99% believe. When Trump couldn’t keep that up he said he also wanted to see if the certificate noted that he was a Muslim.”

He then commented, “As I have said before, ‘What if he was?’ Muslims are born as Americans everyday.”

About Trump and black support: “He is at 1% black voters and will drop. He takes us for idiots. He can never overcome what he tried to do to Obama with his search for the birth certificate hoping to force Obama out of the presidency.”

To Powell, Trump is a “national disgrace” and an “international pariah.”

Powell represents a very serious problem for any Trump supporter who wishes to also claim the label of “patriotic American.”

Powell is nothing if not a storied patriot, devoting his entire life to the defense of, and service to, our country.

The General, from his lofty position, proposes the question of the day: which of the candidates is least unfit to govern?
